Free Special Report: SMART Goals And The Power Of Intention

SMART goals and the power of intentionFree Special Report: S.M.A.R.T. Goals and the Power Of Intentions

SMART is an acronym for

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Realistic
  • Timebound

When used in goal setting it can help you set and achieve goals. I LOVE goal setting and believe it works 100% of the time.

When you set your goals and also set your intention to achieve your desired result using the help of a Higher Power you have a wonderful combination for achieving your desired results.

This is an extract from an ebook I am writing right now called Mindset Of A Blogger. It is to help anyone looking to build a business online and I will be giving it away free to anyone who joins this membership site http://www.2diane.com

It takes a certain and definite kind of mindset to achieve success in anything and to become a professional highly paid blogger it takes more than just a love of writing (as I have found out!)

Even if you are not looking to build an online business this extract will help anyone looking to set professional and personal goals.

Mindset Of A Blogger : Cultivating the blogging habit

To become a professional blogger it is important you cultivate a number of “habits” that will help you stay motivated to blog. This article covers the no excuse habit which is an essential one to develop if you are going to blog regularly – essential especially for new bloggers.

We are all creatures of habits. We have great habits like brushing our teeth twice a day and not so great habits like smoking (because it damages our health!) and if you look at where your life is right now you can pretty much see where your good and not so great habits are.  For example if you have the habit of exercising 4 times a week chances are you are in great shape. If you’re not in great shape (like me!) just take a look at your “habit” called exercise.

So habits are important if we want to experience real long-term benefits (and not just dabble in this “make money online” thing) with our blogs and the habit you need to adopt is the “No excuses” habit. It’s a tough one but here’s what someone told me years ago “Diane. You can have your results or you can have your reasons and excuses for not getting the results you want.” Naturally I wanted results and got to work on become a “no excuses woman” – which I will add I still work on every day  :D

Of course when you begin to take on the habit of not making excuses first you become aware of just how many times an excuse for not getting something done falls out of your mouth like rain from the clouds and then you realise just how hard it is to stick too not making excuses!

Imagine a life where you committed to blog 5 times a week and spend time learning about how to blog at least an hour a day and you managed to do that without excuses. You just got on and did it! How would that make you feel?

Now I’m sure the excuses are forming even as you read this and let me tell you living this life isn’t easy. Wanting to be successful isn’t easy but it is possible and it becomes possible when you make a commitment to make it happen and leave your excuses behind.

In order to experience success as a blogger whether you just want to have fun blogging or you are looking to become a professional blogger you must create a new habit for yourself. This is something you are about to “fit in” with all the other things you have going on in your life. How much time you spend on it will be in direct relation to how important you see it and what it can do for you.

You should also know that the results of your bad habits will not show up immediately. My bad habit was not to plan work in advance for myself. I would enjoy work when I had it and always waited for someone to refer new work to me but never future planned. By the time I realised I had no work it had already stopped for three months. By the time I thought about finding new work it took me another two months. That’s five months with no income coming in because of my bad habit.

Even worse was my habit of buying things on credit cards because I knew I could pay it off in the future. Instant gratification when I bought it but then I spent my time playing catch up all the time to make payments as my spending far exceeded my income.  My chronic bad habit had consequences but they didn’t show up for many months.

If you know that running a successful online business using a blog  is YOUR THING for ultimate success then see what you have to give up to make time for it. Maybe less time spent in the bar drinking with your friends. Perhaps you can wake up an hour earlier than usual or maybe watch an hour less of TV at night. I am not asking you to give up living, just to sacrifice a little of your time to create a new habit and one that really does become a joyful addiction.

It is a good idea to plan your habit out and add it to your calender, especially at the beginning while you get into your routine tell yourself “At 6am for 60 minutes twice a week I will wake up and add content to my blog, comment on at least 4 other blogs and spend some time marketing my blog” – write down your commitment and get into that habit of getting yourself out of bed at 5.50am and ready with a hot drink to settle into doing your hour every Monday and Wednesday (or whichever two days you choose).

It’s been said that it takes 21 days to form a new habit (or to break an old one) so my challenge for you – if you choose to accept it – is to decide on what your new habit will be and stick to it for 30 days.  If you really want to be strict with yourself here is what you do….. if at any time during those 30 days you don’t stick to your new habit then you start again from day one until you can do 30 days straight of whatever you committed to get done.

Of course you can do more. So if you find yourself waking up three times a week instead of two then that’s fantastic but you must at least stick to the minimum plan of twice a week.

Here’s an important lesson I learnt when being mentored in how to build an online business (and paid a fortune to learn it too LOL) if you want to separate yourself from the sheep (the masses of people that do the same thing expecting different results) and enjoy an abundant, unique lifestyle that you designed by choice then you must understand this one thing – everything you do today will affect what happens in your life in the future.

Your habits (or lack of them) will determine how successful you are in the future so get used to telling yourself (especially when you don’t want to blog) that negative habits produce a lack of results and negative consequences.

Developing successful habits produces rewards on a consistent basis.

What you do today really does have an impact on how your life will be in the future. Maybe not tomorrow or even next week but months from now – so if you want to be seeing positive results months from now get into creating successful habits right now.

Until next time…..  Stay focused, stay committed and stay in (consistent) action

A-Listers are giving up blogging. Is it doomed?

I read a great article over at WebProNews that really hit home the need for me to focus on providing value at all times when it comes to blogging.

The article focuses on the number of a-listers leaving the “craft” because they are not generating the income they really want to from their blog. It’s just a shame they don’t know Jack Humphrey because he could definitely help them with that!

One of the people mentioned in the article is Dan Lyon who had 1.5 million people hit is blog and he only earned a little over $1,000 in adsense revenue! He went on to get a few great advertising deals but nothing that allowed him to “leave the day job”

This is a great example of why training is so vitally important if you are going to work towards becoming a professional at anything because Dan would have had a host of other monetizing strategies open to him if he had sought a professional because that really is a huge amount of traffic for such a little result!

As the a-listers give up it provides an opportunity for some new blood and a batch of new a-listers.

The power of the mind and how it relates to success

Are You Destined To Be Mediocre? – That’s the question on a blog post that I read today by Bill The Blog Entrepreneur

It’s a great post on mediocrity and how we tend to aim low when it comes to our potential and what we believe is possible.

Are you doing that with your blog right now? Maybe you think it is going to be too difficult to build a blog that will make any kind of impact, especially when you look at the already established people blogging in your field?  Or maybe it’s a conversation about how to write content, what to do to get traffic, why you don’t have as many comments on your blog as other people……

The list of how we can keep ourselves stuck and in mediocrity is amazing and what happens is the mindset becomes “what’s the point?”

Well that’s exactly the question you need to be able to ask and answer for yourself. What is the point? Why are you doing this blogging thing? What will it provide for you 12 months from now, or 36 months from now or even 10 years from now? What are your visions about yourself as a writer/blogger.

Mediocrity is safe and it leads of boredom (well at least it does for me) and if it feels good to you then maybe you should stay there and leave the real work of gaining our place in the Kingdom of the Master Blogger to those that really want it!

Always remember that mediocrity is just one of the many deadly mindset diseases that will drag you down, procrastination, fear, unfocused attention are a few more….. my next blog will list the top 7 deadly mindset diseases that a wanna be master blogger can catch!

Take good care of you

Diane Corriette, Success University UK

Personal Self Care

A common trait among many women is to look after everyone except themselves. It is important that you take time to do things that will support you in taking care of yourself.  Providing self nurturing as an expression of self-respect will support you in appreciating yourself in your own eyes.

When you nurture yourself you are saying that you are worth spending time with, spending time on, and finding time to do things for yourself.  So look at your basic self care routine.  Do you get enough exercise, sleep and food?  Do you find time for hot baths with soothing music and candles, time by the sea, or walks through the park?  How much fun do you have in your life? What rewards do you give yourself when you accomplish something big or small?

When you can schedule time in your diary to take care of yourself and believe that you are worth taking care of then you will begin to make a huge difference in your life.

Keep an empowering journal or diary and write about your achievements and strengths. This can be one of the most daunting and embarrassing things for some people to complete because talking about how great we are can make us uncomfortable and if that’s how you feel I invite you to push through that and do the exercise.

Another important step is forgiveness. Forgiving yourself for not doing everything you had hoped to do, for not empowering yourself when you could have, and for whatever other reason you may use to put yourself down.  Instead of putting yourself down reward yourself for being willing to try.  If you didn’t even try reward yourself for considering trying!  Do whatever it takes to break the habitual pattern of being hard on your self and try a little bit of forgiveness instead.

One of the biggest times you will have to learn to forgive yourself is when you don’t feel you deserve to be self nurtured or you choose to indulge in something that fits into your old patterns of putting yourself down.  Forgive yourself, make a commitment to change your pattern and start again.

Yesterday is done, tomorrow hasn’t arrived and right now is the only moment that matters, so right now, decide to do something different and forgive your self for what wasn’t done in the past and for ever thinking you did anything wrong.

Self nurture becomes a habit when it is practised consistently, the more you self nurture the more you will feel the willingness to self nurture.  You will begin to let go of the “trash” that is negative internal chatter and embrace the “jewels” that appear when you work on nurturing yourself.

Remember this is a different way of thinking and behaving so there will be times during this journey when you feel a little lost. At those times call on the people who love you, read your journal that outlines your strengths, do whatever you need to do to remind yourself you are loved by you, and if you slip, forgive yourself and start again.

Are you doing what’s easy or what’s needed?

One of the great things about being a writer and being trained in the art of facilitating thinking and self reflection is that I am always doing it myself (thinking and self reflecting).  My life is a constant stream of questions about what I am doing and why things are and/or are not working.

Right now I am questioning my ability to generate a much bigger income than I am currently pulling in and the question came to me today “Have you been doing what’s easy or what’s needed?”

I stopped and thought about that for a while and realised that I had become stuck in wanting things to work easily. My dream is me sitting at home writing stories that I eventually sell online and that dream will be realised, but right now its not my reality.

I am definitely writing and I will definitely be selling my first personal development ebook by the end of November (that’s the target I set myself today – had to set one because my partner reads my blog and he will question me about a deadline!! ) :-)

I also set a deadline to become a published (offline in the bookshops) author by Spring 2009 because I have been speaking about writing a book long enough and it’s time for the speaking to end and the action/reality part to take place!

But what I realised after thinking about it is that I really am not doing what’s needed to make that happen. In my ongoing efforts to think about how to bring in more income I had given up doing what’s necessary and just getting by with what’s easy.

I have friends who at this point will jump to my defence and make the following declarations

“You’re a single mother, you have a lot to do which is why things have slowed down”

“You’ve been through a lot so don’t be so hard on yourself”

“You are doing more than most people already give yourself a break”

My friends love me (God bless them) but excuses like that just don’t work if you truly want something for yourself and I have to decide whether I want the excuses or the results…. I know which one I want already so I better get back to writing!

One of the things that may definitely be needed in the short term is for me to think about taking on part time employment or running some workshops of my own (second choice is my preferred one)

What’s needed is for me to give this 100% of my focus and attention, set my goal for the first ebook and to finish my book then stay with that until they are generating an income. Of course short term (as in this week) I still need to take a serious look at employment, workshops or taking on coaching clients.

Robert G Allen. I have alot of Robert G Allen’s material and on one CD he tells the story of running a workshop about how to make millions from property. Only he had just filed for bankruptcy and was at an all time low. Eventually he said he came clean and told the participants but they wanted him to carry on anyway and appreciated his honesty. Now Robert G Allen is a multi-millionaire.

Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen – Chicken Soup for the soul – On a Robert Allen CD he tells the story of the famous Chicked Soup for the Soul book and what Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen had to do to turn it into a best seller. They had to buy $20,000 worth of their own book at a time when they were already in debt. They had to work 10-12 hours for 14 months to see a return on their investment and they succeeded. Now look at it!

Bob Proctor. Multi million Bob Proctor turned his whole life around by doing something he read out of the book “Think and Grow Rich” – he went from earning $4,000 to making a huge $175,000 in a year by doing this one simple and yet highly motivational thing….. which was

“Decide what you want, write it on a card, carry the card with you, read it as often as possible every day, at least every morning when you get up and before you go to bed at night.”

Stephen Pierce put together an excellent interview with Bob Proctor that you can download by clicking the link below.
