[tutorial] Claiming Your Blog On Technorati
Posted by DianeCorriette on December 26, 2008 · 2 Comments
This tutorial is going to show you how to claim your blog on a popular social network called
technorati.
Technorati“> has been called a “blog search engine” as well as a social networking site, blogging community site…. what it provides is a place full of blogs, or those that love to read and those that love to blog.
Social networks and blogging networks are a great place to add your blog to because its means instant traffic for you. There are loads of different ways to bring traffic to your blog and this is one of the best ways because you only need to do it once!
You go to http://www.technorati.com register and then click on the “claim your blog” link. You then have the option of claiming your blog by adding your wordpress login details or adding a new post.
Inside the new post you are given a short html link to post and mine is in the image below

Step 1
Write a new post. Make sure you are in html mode NOT visual.
Step 2
Take the link that
technorati has provided you with and add it into the POST part of your blog post (just as if you are adding a blog post). Then hit publish.
Step 3
Click on the button that says “Unleash the spiders”
Technorati unlease their spiders (why do they call them spiders? I HATE spiders!) who come to your blog and take a look around to see what you are about.
When your claim goes through (sometimes it might take 2 or 3 times of you clicking the “unlease the spiders” button and Technorati telling you “there was an error we can’t find you” - before it actually goes through!) you will see a page that looks like this

Complete the details of what your blog is about. Add your tags (or keywords) and scroll down and you will see a list of different codes to place on your blog. I normally choose the middle one (you can see it on the right).

Make sure you hit the “save blog info” button and you are done! Now take the code and add it in your sidebar (using widgets)
Sometimes after all your hardwork of adding your description and tags you get this

Which is why its always a good idea to type things in notepad first and then add it…. nothing worse than losing all your hardwork! Just make sure you go back and try again, it’s important that this information is complete.
Once successful you will be given an opportunity to add the technorati widget on your blog that shows your authority (which is based on how many sites are linked to you), your favourites and a bunch of other stuff you can choose to leave in or take out.
Having links to communities like
technorati allows people to add you to their technorati favorites and the more “favored” you become, the higher in the technorati ranks you go and the more people that visit!
UPDATE :
December 26th 08. I have updated this post and re-dated it to appear today because I have an updated
Based on my last line about getting people to add you to their technorati favorites I found this post by Jack Humphrey at Friday Traffic Report
